At Jefferson Valley Farm, Cindy and Paula provide professional instruction in saddle seat, hunt seat and western riding on seasoned, well- trained horses. Regardless of age—we have a spot for you!

Our one-hour lessons consist of teaching basic horse healthcare, grooming and saddling/tacking  the horse (15 minutes), riding and instruction time (30 minutes) and cooling off the horse after each lesson. This includes unsaddling and rinsing/washing the horse (15 minutes). For younger children, lessons are 30-45 minutes with 15-20 minutes of actual riding time as the child builds the strength and endurance for a full 30 minutes of riding time.

 Every rider progresses at his/her own rate and it typically takes 7-10 private riding lessons before they are ready for group lessons. Very young riders need additional private lessons to gain the experience and maturity to acquire the proper skill sets. Rarely is it safe for a rider under the age of six to be in a group situation. More experienced riders should begin with a private lesson and evaluation so they can be  placed in the appropriate group for their level of skill and expertise.  For the tiny riders under age four, we provide lead- line walks with one of our instructors  in constant contact with the horse and child.
